For the first time ever in Punjab, the Election Commission would be video-graphing the counting of votes in all 117 centres across the state on March 6. Punjab Chief Electoral Officer Kusumjit Sidhu today passed instructions in this regard to all election officers of the state through a specially convened video-conferencing session.

Opposition leader in the state Assembly Rajinder Kaur Bhattal claimed that the Congress party in Punjab would enter the corridors of power with an absolute majority. Bhattal was on a thanksgiving spree at Khanauri, Moonak and Lehra under the Lehra Assembly segment represented by her on Saturday.

A day after the Supreme Court allowed the new SGPC House to function, the SGPC today shot off missives to the Centre and the Sikh Gurdwara Election Commission along with the copy of the SC verdict, seeking holding of the SGPC session to elect its new office-bearers at the earliest.

As someone on a move while the campaigning was on for assembly polls in both Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, the one thing that particularly hit me was that our Delhi number-bearing car wasn’t stopped by the cops as often in the Land of Five Rivers as it was in UP. Was it because the security had to be kept extra tight for the staggered polls in UP -- always considered a politically crucial state -- vis a vis Punjab?
